Rat Adoption
We occasionally have rats available from our litters. If you're interested in buying rats from us, please read the guidelines below.

How we sell our rats
Since commencing our rat breeding program again in 2012 we have surprisingly developed a large demand for our rats. For this reason we no longer use a waiting list system, and we no longer take reservations.
Instead we use a "first come, first serve" system for selling our rats. When rats become available they are posted on our Available Rats page. When there are available rats coming up soon, notifications are sent out to people on our newsletter list (you can sign up on the right hand side of this page), and also sent out to people who follow 28rats.com on facebook.
If there are no rats posted on our Available Rats page, you can visit our Planned Rat Litters and Current Rat Litters pages to get a better idea of when rats might be available.
If you are looking for rats right away, we may not be the right breeder for you. Check out our list of Australian rat breeders to find another rat breeder in your area. Also try posting a wanted add on The Australian Rat Forum and The Rat Nation Forum. If you're still running into trouble, contact Keish and I may be able to point you in the right direction.
Other Information
We sell our rats for $20 each, and prefer payment to be made by direct debit. Please note that we won't sell lone rats unless you have other rats waiting for them at home (rats are very social creatures and should be kept in pairs of two or more). With your rats you will also receive a small pack including their pedigrees, a hammock, a small bag of food, a little care pamphlet and a magnet. We're located in North Brisbane and you can pick your rats up directly from the rattery, or we can meet you half way if that's a bit too much travel.
If you don't live in the area we will very happily freight rats interstate at your expense. If you want to freight rats you must purchase at least two of the same sex, as having a friend reduces the stress of flying. At this point in time we won't freight overseas. A Little Disclaimer
Please keep in mind that our vision and goals are just that - something we're working towards. As we are only a new rattery, not all of our rats are going to meet our standards along the way. We will vocalize any problems with our baby rats whilst they are in our care; however we can't guarantee their health or size after they leave the rattery. We encourage our rat adopters to give us their feedback so that we can continue improving on our lines. Hopefully some time in the future we can remove this disclaimer. (:
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Have you got rats available?
Please check our Available Rats page to see if we have rats available. If there aren't any rats listed on that page, then no, we don't have any available. To receive notifications of upcoming rats for sale you can subscribe to our newsletter list (you can sign up on the right hand side of this page), and/or follow 28rats.com on facebook.
You can also check our Planned Rat Litters and Current Rat Litters pages to see when we might have rats available, but we won't take reservations.
2. Can I go on your waiting list?
We no longer have a waiting list or take reservations on our rats, so no, I am sorry. When rats become available they are posted on our Available Rats page. When there are available rats coming up soon, notifications are sent out to people on our newsletter list (you can sign up on the right hand side of this page), and also sent out to people who follow 28rats.com on facebook.
Sometimes I will make exceptions for people in certain circumstances, if you give me (Keish) a call on 0431303200 and ask very nicely. :) Exceptions include:
- If you live in a rural area and can't find another breeder who will send rats by plane. Having been in this situation, I know how frustrating it is.
- If you are a breeder and see something in our litters that could contribute directly to your lines. Always happy to help improve the fancy.
- If you're a budding breeder and need healthy rats to start your lines with. Again, always happy to help improve the fancy.
3. How much are your rats?
We charge $20 per rat, and we prefer payment via direct debit. All money we make from our rats, goes back into paying for their food, litter, accessories and vet expenses.
4. Where are you located?
We're located in North Brisbane.
5. Do you freight?
Yes, we will freight rats within Australia at your expense. We'll only freight rats in same sex pairs of two or more, as this reduces the stress of flying.
6. How much does freight cost?
Please refer to our pricing chart below. It's based on freighting 2 same sex rats. If you want extra rats, just add on the extra $20 per rat. If you want boys and girls, add on $80 for the extra container. Please note this is only a rough estimate.
| Australian Air Express Freighting Charge | Usually about $80 for one container |
|
28rats.com Freighting Charge (includes the container, fuel, and our extra trouble) |
