Welcome to our availability page. Here you will find information on our breeding ethics, purchasing outlines and available rats. If you are unable to find the information you are looking for be sure to visit our contact page. A lot of our litters are sold internally through rat forums or email therefore we do not depend soley on our website. For this reason it's always a good idea to contact us to enquire about being added to our waiting list.

The 28th Rat is on Hiatus

We are taking a break from breeding for a few years. I have recently started a new full-time career and as a result I have less time to dedicate towards the rats. Instead of breeding we will be focusing on promoting our website and attending more rat-related events. If you are looking for some rats as pets, please refer to our

The 28th Rat Breeding Ethics

Our does are bred anywhere between 6-10 months old depending on their individual maturity, size and weight. Generally bucks will not be bred until they reach one year old to ensure they are healthy. Only rats with exceptional temperaments and health will contribute to 28 lines.

All pregnant and nursing does are fed an altered diet in order to help keep their energy up. This diet includes baby food, scrambled eggs, extra bones and yogurt. We usually breed our litters two at a time; this gives us a 'fallback mummy' on the occasion of something going wrong with one litter.

Our babies are handled daily from birth. They’re socialized with many people, animals and rats within the Rattery to ensure you take home interactive, friendly, affectionate pets. Males and females are separated before 5 weeks of age and are ready to leave the Rattery anywhere between 6-10 weeks old depending on their individual maturity, size and weight.

Purchasing from The 28th Rat

Our rats are priced at $25 or $35 for two. Along with your new rats you will receive a small care pack including their pedigrees, a care sheet, some of their food and a hammock. Our rats will not be sold as feeders, feeder breeders or to pet stores. They will also not be sold as a solitary rats unless you have ratties waiting for them at home.

You can pick up your rats direct from The 28th Rat in Tamworth NSW. We will also ship rats at your expense. Shipping costs depend on your location and the amount of rats but generally they get to around $70. You will also need to pay for the container the rats will be shipped in ($15) and for the rats themselves. Rats will only be shipped in pairs of two or more to help reduce the stress of shipping.
